Antigone final draft

In Antigone by Sophocles Antigone and creon are both different and similar in many ways. They are loyal to different things. They are both proud of themselves and are resilient. When Antigone’s brother who is also creons nephew dies Antigone wants to bury his body properly but creon wants to leave him to decay and be attacked by wild dogs because polyneices was a traitor.

Antigone is loyal to her family. In the prologue scene 2 Antigone says,” I will bury the brother I love “ (p.69). In that quote she is talking to her sister and telling her she is going to bury polyneices properly because he is her brother. In scene 7 Antigones says that the Gods want everyone buried properly no matter what wrong they have done. Creon is not as loyal to family like Antigone instead, he is more loyal to the state. Creon didn’t want polyneices buried because he was a traitor to the state and their family. In scene 1 creon says, “ you will give no support to whoever breaks this law” (1,59). In the quote he means that no matter who the person is if they break the law they shouldn’t support them. Like Antigone was loyal to the gods creon was loyal to the state. In scene 4 he captures Antigone and locks her up because she went against the state law. That is how creon and Antigone are different.

Antigone was strong fearless person who was very pristine and wouldn’t take no for an answer. In the prologue Antigone says “ Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (p.36). In that quote she is basically saying that she isn’t scared of cron and she is going to go against him to bury her brother no matter what the law or creon says. Creon was also a strong person but he was strong with power. In scene 4 creon says, “If dirges and planned lamentations could put off death men would be singing forever. Take her go! You know your orders: take her to the vault”(4.53-56). This quote shows his power because he has the power of the choice to put his niece Antigone in the vault to die not.

Both Antigone and creon both share the blame for the tragic fall because they both were think they were right when they both were wrong at some point in the story. Antigone took the blame for burying polyneices even though it was against the law. Creon was wrong when he wouldn’t let anyone bury poylniece even though he was his nephew. Creon went against the Gods law and he lost his wife and son.

  1. I really like how you elaborated on the info! Pretty good, but remember to capitalize their names and to use a comma after "in scene __," (:
