Twisted

1) The story I chose was called Twisted. The story was about a teenaged boy name Tyler who just stared his senior year after being arrested for vandalizing his school as a prank the year before. He has to go to a dinner at his fathers boss’ house who is the father of his crush Bethany and his enemy Chip. When chip pushes Tyler as he walks by he runs into Bethany and she cuts the bottom of her foot and has to get stitches.

2) The theme of the story would be love. The book is a one sided love story because Tyler thinks that he loves Bethany because he has had a crush on her for a long time. The only problem is that Bethany doesn’t feel the same way about him. In the middle of the story it seemed like she was starting to have feelings for him until one night she gets drunk and tries to have sex with him but he didn’t want to because he knew it wasn’t right because she was drunk and she never talked to him after that for turning her down.

3) I chose this book because there is a T.V. show called twisted that I like. It caught my attention because I watched the show and really liked it so, I wanted to see if the book had the same plot or not. I kept reading the book because the plot of the story was the same but on the T.V. show Tyler goes to jail for murdering his aunt with a jump rope when he was 9 and in the book its because he spray painted something on the school building.

4) I found the book realistic because a lot of people have liked someone or “loved” someone who didn’t feel the same way about them. Its also realistic because many teens have been to jail for vandalism or other stupid things.

5) The tone would be reality. The author uses incidents that can/have happened in real-life. Teens everywhere can relate to the book in many different ways.

Five Things You Can Do To Improve Your Basketball Skills
1) Practice your balance. One thing that you have to have that is important in basketball is balance. If you don’t have balance your shot will be off or, you will get a call for traveling. “It doesn’t matter how beautiful a swing a baseball player has; if they always swing at bad pitches, their batting average will be embarrassingly low.” (5 Ways for Basketball Players to Improve Immediately). Balance is probably one of the top 2 important things to have when you play basketball.

2) Defense. When you are on defense you need to know where your opponent is at all times and keep an eye one the ball. you have to “paint the floor” with your feet, this means you ave to always be moving don’t stay in one place. “It’s amazing how many more steals, leather touches (deflections), bothered passes, altered shots, and tipped rebounds basketball players could get if they would just ‘PAINT THE FLOOR” (5 Ways for Basketball Players to Improve Immediately).

3) Ball handling. Ball handling is the most important skill to have. when you know how to handle the ball you are in control of the plays. When you know how to handle the ball you wont have to look at the ball and can focus on the other players seeing whos open and where the defenders are. “The importance of ball handling skills cannot be overstated. Whether you are a guard, forward, or center, playing pickup, college, or professionally, ball handling is (and always will be) the most important skill in the game”. (Basketball Ball Handling Tips).

4) Shooting/shooting form. When you shoot you have to have the correct form for the shot to be perfect. When shooting you have to: Keep Your Eyes On the Target, Pay Attention To Your Balance and Your Stance, Analyze Your Grip, Give Smooth Delivery, Pay Attention To Your Upforce, Improve Your Follow Through, Always Correct Your Shot. “Shooting form is also one of the most poorly coached things in basketball. While you can be creative with form and become consistent through practice, keeping it simple is the best way to go” (Basketball Shooting Form).

5) Talking. You have to make sure you talk to your teammates. If your team has a good communication level you will play better. “Communication enhances every human experience.” (5 Ways for Basketball Players to Improve Immediately ). Saying things like “shot” or “Ball” help your team know what’s going on or throws off your opponent when they are shooting.

Literature Analysis: I love you Beth Cooper

1) The story begins at Denis Cooverman’s graduation ceremony in the school gym. It was a really hot day and Denis was nervous about the speech he had to give. When it was time for his speech Denis decided to change everything, he told Beth cooper the head cheerleader and 2nd most beautiful girl in school that he loved her in front of their whole class, friends, and family. At the dance Denis invited Beth over to his house for a party. Beth showed up with her two friends Cammy and Treece. The only people at the party were Treece, Cammy, Beth, Denis, and Denis’s best friend Rich. After they started drinking the champagne that Denis’s father left Beth got a call from her boyfriend Kevin who was in the Marines. Kevin ended up coming to Denis’s house and started to beat him up and chasing him through out the neighborhood because he hear d Denis say he was in love with Beth. The 5 teens managed to get away from Kevin but not for long. Kevin found them at a house party that’s when Kevin and Denis started to fight until Beth drove a car into the side of the house. After they got away for the second time they all got drunk and went to Treeces dad’s lake house. Kevin finds them again because of a GPS chip in the car. Kevin takes Denis to the middle of the lake in a boat. When they stop Denis knocks Kevin out by hitting him in the head with the paddle. Denis pulls Kevin to the shore, when Kevin wakes up he starts to beat Denis up until the cops show up and take everyone home.

2) Themes

Love - This book is a one sided love story. I say this because Denis Cooverman was in love with Beth Cooper. A girl he didn’t know and she had no idea who he was.

Reality- it was a reality because in Denis’s head Beth was perfect and never did wrong but through out the story she proves him wrong and he finds out that she is far from perfect.

3) The main theme of the story was action. There was a lot of fighting and law breaking. The teens probably broke at least 10 laws in one night from drunk driving to breaking into their school.

4) Five Literary Elements

1) “congratulations, you found me” (p.82) This quote is a example of verbal irony because Beth is being sarcastic when she says it

2)” Ed Munch sat high in the bleachers, between his wife and a woman who smelled like boiled potatoes” (p.1) This quote is an example of a simile because he compares her smell to a boiled potato using the word “like”.

3) “all in all, its just another brick in the wall” (p141). In this quote he means that there is nothing different about the situation its all the same.

4) “ Beth Cooper was a nice, pretty girl who always returned the pencils she borrowed” (p.117) this is an example of love from one of the themes in Denis’s head, Beth is perfect in every way possible.

5) “why me, why not Claudia Confer? She is prettier then me, and a lot nicer.” (p.128) this is an example of the reality part of the story because Beth knows that she isn’t perfect and tries to tell Denis.

Antigone final draft

In Antigone by Sophocles Antigone and creon are both different and similar in many ways. They are loyal to different things. They are both proud of themselves and are resilient. When Antigone’s brother who is also creons nephew dies Antigone wants to bury his body properly but creon wants to leave him to decay and be attacked by wild dogs because polyneices was a traitor.

Antigone is loyal to her family. In the prologue scene 2 Antigone says,” I will bury the brother I love “ (p.69). In that quote she is talking to her sister and telling her she is going to bury polyneices properly because he is her brother. In scene 7 Antigones says that the Gods want everyone buried properly no matter what wrong they have done. Creon is not as loyal to family like Antigone instead, he is more loyal to the state. Creon didn’t want polyneices buried because he was a traitor to the state and their family. In scene 1 creon says, “ you will give no support to whoever breaks this law” (1,59). In the quote he means that no matter who the person is if they break the law they shouldn’t support them. Like Antigone was loyal to the gods creon was loyal to the state. In scene 4 he captures Antigone and locks her up because she went against the state law. That is how creon and Antigone are different.

Antigone was strong fearless person who was very pristine and wouldn’t take no for an answer. In the prologue Antigone says “ Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (p.36). In that quote she is basically saying that she isn’t scared of cron and she is going to go against him to bury her brother no matter what the law or creon says. Creon was also a strong person but he was strong with power. In scene 4 creon says, “If dirges and planned lamentations could put off death men would be singing forever. Take her go! You know your orders: take her to the vault”(4.53-56). This quote shows his power because he has the power of the choice to put his niece Antigone in the vault to die not.

Both Antigone and creon both share the blame for the tragic fall because they both were think they were right when they both were wrong at some point in the story. Antigone took the blame for burying polyneices even though it was against the law. Creon was wrong when he wouldn’t let anyone bury poylniece even though he was his nephew. Creon went against the Gods law and he lost his wife and son.
